The Committee on the Status of Minorities and the Disadvantaged originated in the summer of 1968 as a special committee appointed by Chancellor Sitterson. The committee was charged to study the experiences of minority and disadvantaged students at the university and to recommend ways to increase minority recruitment and improve student satisfaction.
